Halfway through the college season, James Hagens is building momentum

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Scoring slumps happen, whether you're talking about the greatest goalscorers of all time or a fourth-liner playing limited 5-on-5 minutes.
Just by the nature of the sport, there will be stretches where a hockey player takes a certain number of shots — 10, 20, even 30 or more — and the puck just won't go past the goalie.
It goes that way even when you're the potential No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft. And it's really not ideal if the scoring slump happens in the first third of your college career.
Through the first 12 games of the season, Boston College centre James Hagens, who entered the year widely considered to be the guy all the bad NHL teams were tanking for, scored just one goal. It came in his third game, late in a blowout win over AIC.
Before and after that goal, it was a drought. He went the first eight shots on goal of his college career before breaking through in Game No. 3 against the Yellowjackets, and then went another 29 shots before finally scoring again on Nov. 29 against Dartmouth.
