2020-21 Trade Deadline

The Trade Deadline Buyer's Guide to Savvy Shopping

We're little over 72 hours from the April 12th trade deadline. Teams are running out of time to swing for the fences and tinker around the margins as they rev up towards a run at the Stanley Cup.

Wednesday's Kyle Palmieri trade might well have been the opening bell.

There’s a cloud of uncertainty hanging over this deadline, as the constraints of a flat cap and quarantine protocols only serve to feed the worst, most conservative instincts of the league's general managers. This might ultimately be the most uneventful deadline day in years.

With a number of rentals still on the table, though, someone is likely to finding something useful, even if it's not the sexiest acquisition.

As such, it's worth scouring the market for its most cost-effective, savvy offerings -- players who might provide more value than the asking price would lead one to believe. I'll be assessing these players using a variety of stats taken from TopDownHockey as well as my own Player Cards. A brief explainer of these visualizations and how to interpret them can be found here.
