Maple Leafs trade Denis Malgin to Avalanche for Dryden Hunt

The Toronto Maple Leafs traded forward Denis Malgin to the Colorado Avalanche on Monday for forward Dryden Hunt

Malgin had four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in 23 games with Toronto this season. He'll be a restricted free agent this summer, with a qualifying offer of $787,500.

Hunt, 27, is joining his third team of the season. He started the year with the New York Rangers, but was waived after three games and was claimed by the Avalanche. In 25 games with Colorado he had one goal.

Hunt will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. For his career he's played 193 NHL games with four franchises.

Malgin returned to the NHL this season after two seasons back in Switzerland.

The timing of the deal was important, the NHL roster freeze goes into effect tonight at midnight.
