Dylan Larkin signs eight year extension to remain in Detroit

The Detroit Red Wings signed captain Dylan Larkin to an eight-year extension with an annual value worth $8.7 million per season.

ESPN's Emily Kaplan was the first to report the deal.

A pending unrestricted free agent, Larkin had a full no-trade clause and controlled his fate in season.

The Detroit captain is having a phenomenal contract year with 57 points (22 goals, 35 assists) in 59 games. The two sides have been talking throughout the season, but didn't come to an agreement until this week with Detroit in the playoff picture.

Larkin has said this season he'd like to be a life-long Red Wing, and the Michigan resident may have gotten his wish with this deal that has him signed in Detroit until he's 34.
