Capitals to hire Spencer Carbery as next head coach

The Washington Capitals are hiring Spencer Carbery as their next head coach.

Carbery, 41, will receive a four-year deal, as reported by ESPN.

Carbery was one of the popular names on the coaching circuit, most recently serving as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs and running their power play.

He returns to the Capitals organization, where he came up through the ranks coaching for its ECHL and AHL affiliates, where he was named both the ECHL and AHL coach of the year for the South Carolina Stingrays and Hershey Bears.
