[VIDEO] The Next Great Offensive Defencemen: Luke Hughes vs Lane Hutson

NHL fans are starting to become accustomed to blueliners producing gaudy point totals. Whether it’s Cale Makar seemingly scoring goals at will as he shakes and bakes through a sea of defenders. Erik Karlsson rejuvenated his career with an incredible 101 points last season. Quinn Hughes, Rasmus Dahlin, Adam Fox.. the list goes on and on.

But who will be the next great offensive defenceman in the league?

Luke Hughes of the New Jersey Devils and Lane Hutson of the Montreal Canadiens are two prime candidates. Hughes with his electric skating and thirst for puck-rushing glory. Hutson with his incredible set of hands, explosive acceleration, and smart distribution.

Hutson has a clear path to the top job in Montréal when he comes out of school. Hughes has to usurp Dougie Hamilton at the top of the Devils’ umbrella. Each has the skill to get there, but which young defender will reign supreme?
